Author-Event Planning & Acquistions
Pitching Your Book’s Message — for author seeking shelf space at libraries and in bookstores
I work with authors to gain clarity about what matters to libraries and bookstores — the two most important community spaces where authors want their books to be seen.
Librarians and booksellers receive requests from authors everyday. Requests to stock their book, to host their signing, to help them organize a launch, to offer their knowledge in the form of a talk or a workshop — to love their book as much as they do.
An effective pitch tailored to librarians and booksellers, will help you get your book, your story, your message into the hands of the people who most need to hear it.
Think of librarians and booksellers as local influencers. Maybe they’ll post a #bookstagram or a #booktok about your work; however, if you learn how to engage with what is important to the communities they serve, they are more likely to tell everyone they meet about why they need to read your book, right now.
Designing Events — for authors creating & pitching community events (or hosting their own)
The authors I work with will be presenting and promoting their work primarily in these types of community spaces:
bookstores, book festivals, literary marketplaces
libraries, museums, universities, and other cultural or educational institutions
professional association meetings and conferences, workplace trainings
historical societies, garden clubs, senior living communities
schools, civic centers, houses of worship
book clubs, a friend’s house (or even their barn!)
and through virtual events hosted by these type of organizations.
Designing public programs was the #1 thing people asked me for advice about when I worked as a Community Engagement Librarian.
While each event is unique, the planning process is the same. I work with authors to create a custom design plan that ensures they can confidently pitch their events and get booked on community calendars — repeatedly. Successful event planning starts by designing your event for the audience and the type of venue in mind.
Researching the Literary Landscape — for authors promoting their work to new communities
To expand the reach of your author events and branch out into new communities, you’ll want to have a targeted list of venues that match the audience for your book’s marketing goals. I work with authors who want to explore the many options available to them in promoting their work within a particular geographical area.
This service helps authors who are planning their own book tours, or want to share their work while traveling, while visiting family, or to reach new audiences through virtual events. I believe this research is critical to understanding your event market and will save you time when pitching to new communities.

Editing Services
For my rates and estimates, see below.
Levels of Editing
Copyediting
corrects for mechanical errors such as spelling, grammar, usage, and punctuation. Cross references are checked, and a style sheet is prepared that acts as a guide for consistency and accuracy across the manuscript.
Line Editing
works at the sentence or paragraph level of a project. Mechanical errors are corrected (like in copyediting), but the main focus is on improving the language and style of the text.
Proofreading
is the final check for any remaining errors, including typographical errors. This includes checking for problems with typesetting elements, such as style for chapter titles and running heads; page makeup; and ebook page flow.
Proofreading is not considered editing, even though the term is often used interchangeably with copyediting in common speech.
